Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany says Liverpool have been the best team they have faced in the Premier League this season as they prepare for a crunch clash at Anfield on Sunday.

The game has been labelled a title decider, with Liverpool top of the table after nine successive wins and four points ahead of third-placed City. However, City have two games in hand over Sunday's opponents with critics believing the destiny of the title is in their own hands.

And Kompany has backed his side to get the win at Anfield, saying: "We remember the match against them earlier in the season and for me, Liverpool are still the best Premier League team we've faced at the Etihad.

"They have been on a fantastic run and we know we have to be focused and leave the pitch at the end knowing we've given everything because there is so much at stake in this game. But then again, this is a great challenge for us."

Kompany feels away wins at Manchester United, Tottenham and Bayern Munich will give City the edge over Liverpool.

"We've been to Old Trafford, White Hart Lane and the Allianz Arena and come away with victories this season and our form on the road is as good as anyone," he said.

"We know that if the players, supporters and staff around our club stand together, we are capable of anything."
