Will Manchester United's global influence aid them in the upcoming transfer window?

David Moyes is intensifying his scouting operations in preparation for what is likely to be a hectic summer for Manchester United, while top target Luke Shaw is also thought to be weighing up his options.

According to the Daily Mail, Moyes attended Porto's Portugal Cup semi-final against Benfica in Lisbon to check the progress of three potential signings. The newspaper claims Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala and team-mate Jackson Martinez were at the centre of Moyes' attention, while the Scot was also keen to watch Benfica left-back Guilherme Siqueira.

Fellaini on course for Everton return

  • The Daily Telegraph claims Marouane Fellaini could return for Manchester United's visit to his former club Everton after recovering from a calf injury.
  • The injury ruled Fellaini, a £27m summer signing from Goodison Park and the first of Moyes' reign, out of their Champions League exit to Bayern Munich.
  • Moyes believes Fellaini is finally coming good following his underwhelming start to life at Old Trafford, which saw the Belgian sidelined for two months following wrist surgery in December.

Moyes is set to be handed a £200m warchest to completely overhaul his squad after a disappointing maiden season in charge, which leaves United facing a first season in 19 years without Champions League football.

With with Nemanja Vidic's impending switch to Inter Milan on the horizon, plus the uncertainty over the future of both Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra at Old Trafford, Moyes is keen to bolster his squad for next season, particularly his defence.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that United are edging closer for a £30m deal for Southampton defender Shaw, while the Guardian claims the 18-year-old will weigh up his options and decide his future before the World Cup starts in June.

Shaw, who is tipped to make Roy Hodgson's England squad in Brazil, has attracted widespread interest following an impressive season at St Mary's playing under Mauricio Pochettino. Despite Southampton recently warning their Premier League rivals off Shaw, United are thought to be fighting Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona for his signature.

Discussions have also been held with Sporting Lisbon over defensive midfielder William Carvalho, though United are unwilling to meet his £37 million buy-out clause, but Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan has been ruled out after signing a contract extension with the Bundesliga side.
