Daniel Sturridge is "struggling" to be fit for Liverpool's trip to Norwich on Sunday, manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed.

The striker limped off during last Sunday's 3-2 victory over Manchester City, with scans revealing he had suffered a small hamstring strain.

Rodgers said: "He may struggle for the weekend. It's not too serious. It's not going to keep him out for too many weeks, but he may be a risk for the weekend.

"We'll assess it more over the next couple of days. That's how we're looking at it at the moment."

Rodgers has refused to rule out Sturridge altogether, though, pointing to the speed with which he has recovered from injuries in the past.

Sturridge, 24, missed most of pre-season after suffering ligament damage in his right ankle while playing in a friendly for England against the Republic of Ireland in May last year.

But he was fit to start the season, hitting the winner in a 1-0 Premier League victory over Stoke on the opening day and going on to score six goals in his first five appearances of the campaign.

"It's impossible to put a time-frame on it at the moment, because he might make a really good recovery over the next few days and be ready for the weekend.

"We'll see how he goes, because he does recover very quickly. Before the first game of the season, he'd only played 45 minutes of football, yet he scored the winner.

"It's not as serious as a hamstring injury can be."

Earlier on Thursday, Daniel Sturridge tweeted to reveal his frustration at being injured during Sunday's victory over City, stressing that he is determined to be fit for the match against Norwich:
