Rooney ready to face Everton, confirms Moyes

Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini have been passed fit to play for Manchester United against their former club Everton on Sunday.

The striker was hampered by a toe injury in United's 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, when he had a painkilling injection before playing.

But manager David Moyes delivered positive news on Rooney. "He has trained this week and has been in really good form. We're hopefully getting him back as he wasn't quite right with his toe at times. He's trained great though," said Moyes.

Fellaini missed the second leg against Bayern but is set to make his first return to Goodison Park since completing his £27.5 million move to United in September.

The midfielder remains Everton's record signing and is also their most lucrative sale and scored 32 goals in 177 games during his five years on Merseyside.

"Felli didn't play against Bayern but we expect him back fit because he has trained all week," Moyes said.

Centre-back Jonny Evans, who has not featured for the first team since the start of February, could make his comeback, but right-back Rafael is still sidelined by a thigh injury.

"Evans is making progress but Rafa is the one player not available," Moyes added.

United will still be without striker Robin van Persie, who remains in the Netherlands, where he is undergoing rehabilitation on a knee problem.

"Robin [van Persie] is in Holland and making improvements, but we always thought it would be four to six weeks," Moyes said.

"We'll have a better assessment in the next week or so as we'll see how he is coming along. Our medical team is heading out there to see him this week and get a better feel as to exactly where he is."
