Villa set for £200m takeover if they avoid relegation
Aston Villa could be set for a £200 million takeover if they stay in the Premier League this season.
According to The Telegraph, two major American investors want to purchase the club, but only if they avoid relegation by not falling into the Championship.
Villa have suffered four consecutive defeats and are currently 14th in the table, four points clear of the drop zone but with a game in hand over the other sides near and in the relegation spots.
Currently under the ownership of American Randy Lerner, it is not clear whether a potential takeover would affect the future of manager Paul Lambert.
The Telegraph reports that the two American investors are keen on strengthening the squad, with the details of a takeover "being kept private".
Back in February, Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner said the club were not for sale and denied rumours of Lerner looking to sell the side he bought for £62.6m in August 2006.
