Mourinho, Faria and Ramires all charged by FA

Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct by the FA for comments he made following Chelsea's controversial Premier League defeat to Sunderland.

Mourinho sarcastically "congratulated" both match referee Mike Dean and Premier League match officials chief Mike Riley after the defeat, which ended Mourinho's run of 77-unbeaten league games at Stamford Bridge and dented his side's title challenge.

Before his congratulatory speech, Mourinho had not spoken to the media since he was fined for entering the field of play at the end of his side's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa last month.

In a statement released on its official website, the FA said: "Mourinho has been charged with misconduct in respect of post-match comments he made following the fixture.

"It is alleged that Mourinho's comments constitute improper conduct, in that they call into question the integrity of the referee appointed to the above fixture and/or the integrity of Mr Mike Riley, General Manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, and/or the comments bring the game into disrepute.

"Mourinho has until 6pm on Monday 28 April to respond to the charge."

Mourinho's charge comes as one of three handed to Chelsea; Ramires has been charged by the governing body with violent conduct after he appeared to catch Sunderland's Sebastian Larsson with an elbow. The incident was missed by referee Dean, but was caught on video.

The FA said: "Chelsea midfielder Ramires has been charged for violent conduct following an off-the-ball incident that was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"In the Premier League, if an incident has not been seen by the match officials, a three-man panel of former elite referees will be asked by The FA to review it and advise what, if any, action they believe the match referee should have taken had it been witnessed at the tie.

"In this case the panel were unanimous that it was an act of violent conduct. Ramires has until 6pm on Thursday 24 April to respond to the charge."

Furthermore, Mourinho's assistant Rui Faria has been charged with two counts of misconduct after he was involved in a heated touchline exchange with both Dean and his fourth official.

"It is alleged that in the 83rd minute of the fixture, Faria used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official," the FA said. "It also alleged that Faria's behaviour following the match referee's request that he leave the technical area amounted to improper conduct.

"The FA has designated this as a non-standard case due to the aggressive and/or threatening and/or serious nature of the reported behaviour. Faria has until 6pm on Monday 28 April to respond to the charge."
