Rooney still struggling for fitness

Wayne Rooney is likely to miss Manchester United's home game against Hull on Tuesday.

The England striker, who is United's 19-goal top scorer this season, sat out Saturday's home defeat to Sunderland with a stomach bug and a groin problem.

And interim manager Ryan Giggs said the striker will probably be absent again, telling MUTV: "Wayne is probably struggling for the game. He's not quite recovered. We'll continue to monitor him."

United welcomed back Robin van Persie as a substitute against Sunderland and the Holland international could be given his first start since March while Javier Hernandez and Juan Mata, who also began the game, and Danny Welbeck, who was chosen for the 4-0 win over Norwich, are other options in attack.

Giggs is also considering picking himself for what could prove his final game at Old Trafford.

The 40-year-old has not decided whether to play on next season and did not name himself in the squad for his first two games in charge.

"I want to win the game as manager as well," Giggs said. "I want to do what's best to win the game and not just make room for me in the starting line-up or on the bench, which I won't do.

"Of course, the perfect scenario is me coming on and scoring a goal, the winning goal, and hopefully everyone will be happy but it doesn't always work like that. We'll have to wait and see what happens on the night."

The caretaker manager had mixed news of two defenders, revealing that centre-back Jonny Evans' season is probably over but saying that right-back Rafael da Silva, who has been out since the 4-1 win over Aston Villa with a thigh injury, could feature.

He added: "Rafa has trained in the last few days and looks good. He could be involved in the remaining two games."
