Wayne Rooney insists PFA Player of the Year Luis Suarez is still not as good as his former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Liverpool striker scored his 31st goal of the season in the Premier League with his strike in the 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday, drawing level with Ronaldo's best ever league tally in England, in the 2007-08 season.

Suarez also claimed the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year gong and took the same honour at Liverpool's end of season awards do, but Rooney feels 2013 Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo remains ahead of him for quality.

Asked who was currently the best player in the world, Rooney told said: "Cristiano Ronaldo and probably Luis Suarez a close second."

Ronaldo also came into the equation when Rooney was quizzed on the best player he has ever played with - but he couldn't split the Real Madrid forward and United legend Paul Scholes.

"The best player I've ever played with is between two - Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes," Rooney added.

"Scholesy controlled the game and passed the ball around but in terms of winning games - Cristiano Ronaldo."

Rooney also said he could see himself following current team-mate and United interim manager Ryan Giggs onto the touchline when his playing days are up.

"Honestly I don't know, I could be a manager at some point," he added.

"It would depend on circumstances in my life and what chapter of my life I was at with my family and which club it would be."
