Edin Dzeko has promised Manchester City fans there will be no repeat of the torture that almost saw the club miss out on the title at the death two years ago.

City's 4-0 win at home to Aston Villa means they need just a point on Sunday against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium to become champions.

City title will be triumph for style

  • Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini claims his team's likely title success will be a victory for the purists. Debate has raged this season over the right way to play with Jose Mourinho, Pellegrini's Chelsea counterpart and bitter rival, championing his counter-attacking style.

However, with memories of City's dramatic last-gasp win against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2011-12 season - when they came back from 2-1 down with two stoppage-time goals to snatch the title from Manchester United - still fresh in the memory, Dzeko says the players will get the job done early this time.

"We'll go for the win because we know what happened two years before," Dzeko told the BBC. "We have experience with that, with Queens Park Rangers when everyone thought we'll win it easy, maybe in the first half.

"It was the worst game for the fans they will ever see. Now we'll take it very seriously and try to finish it earlier."

City took their Premier League tally to 100 goals for the season on Wednesday, becoming just the second team in the competition's history to do so after Chelsea in 2009-10.

Dzeko shares the belief of his manager Manuel Pellegrini and insists it is a feat to be admired.

"Its amazing to score 100 goals in the league and 154 in all competitions," Dzeko added. "That shows we did well this season and are trying to play aggressive and attacking football. It's amazing for the fans to watch us."

Dzeko also paid tribute to the man who brought up that century, Yaya Toure, with what was a trademark bulldozing run and deadly finish.

"I was already on the bench so when you see it from the side, like five players just trying to catch him up and they can't come even close to him, it's amazing," he added.

"He's a very important player for us. He's scored so many goals as a defensive midfielder, that shows his qualities."
