Ozil told to show his strength

Mesut Ozil needs to work on his negative body language if he is to overcome his struggles at Arsenal in the Premier League, according to Joachim Loew.

The Germany manager's view is also said to be shared by Arsene Wenger after the midfielder became the most expensive German player ever, leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal in a £42.5 million move on the final day of the summer transfer window in 2013.

After a bright start to his career in England, Ozil struggled for form at the turn of the year and came in for scrutiny when he missed a penalty in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 game against Bayern Munich. His contribution in the second leg was also questioned before he was withdrawn with a torn muscle at half-time.

Ozil returned to the Arsenal team in late April, and has recently said that he is fully satisfied with his first year at the Emirates.

Loew has said that Ozil needs to show greater strength of character at times, but has backed him to overcome his challenging start in English football and to become a better player for it.

"During his first year at Arsenal he had to learn that football in Premier League is even more intense and physical than in other leagues," Loew told German magazine kicker. "Ozil has been through a low at the end of the last year, after that the injury followed.

"Mesut needs to work on his body language. He has heard it from me, and, I believe, also from Arsene Wenger.

"He is an inspired footballer. But when he fails or is not able to solve a deciding situation, he also needs to show that he can swallow that and send out signals like, 'In spite of that, I am still here and I can still affect the game'.

"He is in the middle of a learning process, and he will come out on top. I bank on him and I have complete trust in Mesut Ozil."
