Redknapp confirms Cole intention

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has reiterated his desire to sign out-of-contract England international Joe Cole.

As first revealed in an exclusive interview with Soccernet, Redknapp has been in contact with Cole's representatives and is hopeful a deal can be done when the midfielder returns from the World Cup.

Cole failed to agree a new contract with Chelsea last month and has been linked with both Manchester United and Arsenal. But Redknapp is aiming to snap up one of this summer's highest-profile free agents ahead of his rivals.

Redknapp gave Cole his break at West Ham United when he was manager at Upton Park and could be reunited with the 28-year-old.

Redknapp said: "We've declared our interest in Joe to his agent but that is as far as it has gone. We are told Joe doesn't want to talk to anyone about any move until after the World Cup is over."
