Brendan Rodgers says he has made Liverpool the talk of European football with the club's brand of attacking football over the past two years.

His team may have missed out on the Premier League title with critics claiming they choked but the manager insists a surprise push for the top spot and return to Champions League football has re-invigorated the club's supporters and recovered the "soul" of the club.

Liverpool monitoring Sevilla left-back

  • Liverpool are interested in a deal for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his defence, club sources have told ESPN.
  • The 21-year-old was part of the Sevilla team who won the Europa League in Turin on Wednesday night by beating Benfica 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw and could command a fee of around £15 million.

"The restoration when I came in two years ago was to get Liverpool back to become one of the leading clubs in Europe," Rodgers told to the club's official website after his side's 4-0 friendly win against Shamrock Rovers.

"Over the last two years, the identity of the team and the style of football has made the British league and the European leagues sit up and take notice.

"This season we've had some incredible performances and we have recovered the soul of the club again for the supporters.

"They feel pride and enthusiasm in the club and they have a spring in their step because we are heading back in the direction of where Liverpool football club should be - and that's the best."

Rodgers' side embarked on an 11-game winning streak towards the end of the season, but defensive lapses against Chelsea and Crystal Palace ultimately cost the club what would have been a first domestic league title since 1990.

They finished second to Manchester City and Rodgers is keen to strengthen his side this summer in order not to lose ground next year. While several players could depart the club to boost their transfer kitty, Liverpool are making waves in the market and are expected to complete a move for Adam Lallana. They also have a strong interest in Cardiff central defender Steven Caulker.
