Bayern admit Kroos could leave

Bayern Munich have hinted they could sell Toni Kroos and asked him to tell them where he stands.

The midfielder is under contract with the German club for another year but talks over a new deal have stalled and president Karl Hopfner admits they may be tempted by a big offer.

Scholes gives United both barrels

  • Paul Scholes claims Toni Kroos is the first player he would try to sign if he was in charge at Manchester United - but doubts the executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has the ability to conclude the deal.

"It was the same with Michael Ballack [before his free transfer to Chelsea in 2006], we withdrew our offer at one point," Hopfner, who also insisted the club are not prepared to improve their wages proposition, said. "Kroos is under contract until 2015.

"There will certainly be more talks. But eventually the player has to say what he wants. We will not overstep certain financial limits."

When asked whether Bayern would be willing to sell Kroos should they receive a substantial offer, Hopfner added: "I don't know. Everything changes so fast sometimes."

United were believed to have made significant progress in their pursuit of Kroos, 24, with sources close to Old Trafford telling ESPN on Tuesday that they were confident of completing a deal.

However ESPN has learned United are no longer trying to sign Kroos after new manager Louis van Gaal decided to pursue other targets.

There have been reports that Kroos' team-mate Arjen Robben is on Van Gaal's wanted list.
