Qatar bid team denies wrong-doing

The Qatar 2022 World Cup bid committee has denied all allegations of wrong-doing after claims of widespread corruption during the bidding process.

The Sunday Times has claimed that it had received "hundreds of millions" of documents that allegedly revealed that disgraced former FIFA executive committee member Mohamed Bin Hammam had made payments to football officials in return for votes for Qatar.

However, in a statement released on Sunday, the Qatar 2022 bid committee insists Bin Hammam "played no official or unofficial role" in their successful bid to host the tournament.

The committee also said it was co-operating with the ongoing investigation led by FIFA's chief investigator Michael Garcia.

"The Qatar 2022 Bid Committee always upheld the highest standard of ethics and integrity in its successful bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup," the statement said.

On Sunday, FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce said he would be in favour of re-running the vote for the 2022 World Cup if allegations that widespread corruption was involved in the Qatar bid were proven.
