Fernando Torres believes Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas would add a new dimension to Jose Mourinho's side and has backed prospective Chelsea recruit Diego Costa to thrive at Stamford Bridge.

Reports emerged last week that Fabregas was being touted by Barcelona for £30 million, while Gerard Pique, his team-mate for both club and country, said the midfielder has told him he is leaving the club.

With a return to the Premier League looming, Torres said Fabregas would be a welcome addition to Chelsea's squad.

"Big players are always good signings," Torres told Marca. "We know Cesc, he knows the division and was always among the top players when he was at Arsenal. He likes to play good football and will offer ball control, cutting edge, and goals.

"If he's made to feel important, like a leader - like when he was at Arsenal - he can drive the team on and he's a type of player Chelsea don't have right now."

Torres was full of praise for Costa, who passed his medical at Chelsea ahead of a £32m move next month.

"He is a strong player who is good with his back to goal, someone who can mix it with defenders and offer another outlet when you're having a hard time in possession," Torres added.

"He has different attributes to our other attacking players, so he gives the coach a different option."
