Villa sign Cole on free transfer
Aston Villa have announced the signing of Joe Cole on a two-year contract.
The former West Ham midfielder will join on a free transfer after completing a medical at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground on Tuesday. He becomes manager Paul Lambert's second signing of the summer, following former Valencia defender Philippe Senderos to Villa Park.
"It's a massive opportunity for me and I am excited to be here," said Cole. "When I spoke to the gaffer we agreed on a lot of things and the fact of playing in a central, attacking position really sold it to me."
Cole, 32, re-joined boyhood club West Ham from Liverpool last year following a loan spell at Ligue 1 side Lille. He scored five league goals in his second spell at the club before being released in May.
