Rojo on Rodgers' radar as Moreno move stalls

Liverpool will consider a move for Argentina left-back Marcos Rojo if Sevilla refuse to drop their asking price for Alberto Moreno.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has made Spain defender Moreno his top defensive target as he looks to strengthen his back line before the club's return to the Champions League next season, but refuses to be held to ransom.

Sevilla reportedly want £20 million for Moreno and sources have told ESPN that Liverpool feel that is too much for a player with only three international caps to his name. However, the club are refusing to give up on a player who was a member of Spain's Under-21 side European Championship-winning side in 2013.

However, Rodgers is looking at possible alternatives should the club fail to agree a fee for Moreno, who failed to make Spain's World Cup squad despite being included in Vicente Del Bosque's provisional 30-man party.

Rojo, who plays for Sporting Lisbon, has been scouted by Liverpool over the last 18 months and impressed for Argentina as they beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-1 in their opening World Cup match in Rio De Janeiro on Sunday.

He joined Sporting Lisbon from Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow in 2012, having begun his career with Estudiantes in Argentina.

Rodgers is also continuing to pursue a move for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana despite talks seemingly having stalled. Liverpool have already signed striker Rickie Lambert from Southampton, who on Monday confirmed Ronald Koeman as their new manager.
