Arsene Wenger has previously denied he was interested in signing Draxler, however it is believed he was unwilling to meet Schalke's valuation of the midfielder.

However Draxler now insists he made the decision to spurn Arsenal's advances in order to continue his development with Schalke.

"In January, there was the offer of Arsenal, but I decided to stay," Draxler told the BBC.

"I will do the same this summer. I want to play one year more in Schalke."

In February, Schalke confirmed the club did turn down an offer for Draxler, but not whether it had come from Arsenal, with Bayern Munich also rumoured to have been interested.

Draxler was an unused substitute in Germany's emphatic 4-0 win against Portugal in their opening match of the World Cup on Monday.
