Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini wants to prove himself to new manager Louis van Gaal after a debut season to forget at Old Trafford.

Fellaini was signed by David Moyes for £27 million from Everton last summer but struggled for form and with injuries and he lost the faith of the fans as the team endured their worst campaign for years.

However, Fellaini headed Belgium's equaliser in their opening World Cup victory against Algeria and, with friends claiming United were to blame for his failure to make an impact last season, he is ready to turn his United career around under Van Gaal.

Fellaini told the Belgian press: "Everybody knows my club season was one to forget. I'm the same Marouane.

"United signed me one year ago. There have been some positives and some negatives, like the bad injury I picked up. Also, our team didn't quite click into place.

"Now we have a new manager, we'll see what happens next season. In the meantime, I am concentrating on my national team. I don't play here for a transfer. We'll see with the new coach, but I still feel good at United."
