Tomlinson: Doncaster takes me in new direction

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, the new owner of Doncaster Rovers, has admitted it is time to grow up after purchasing the club he supported as a boy.

Tomlinson, who is more well-known to teenage girls than football fans, has become joint-chairman of the League One club with business partner John Ryan.

The duo they have also set up the Tomlinson Ryan Trust and donated a six-figure sum but have asked fans to help out with a drive for extra cash as they aim to raise £2 million.

Louis told The Sun: "This is life-changing for me. I'm going to have to start acting dead serious. I can't be a big kid any more or play pranks.

"I am absolutely going to be very involved in the club. I will be committing a lot of time to it. I've said that I want to be across absolutely everything. I'll definitely be going to board meetings, which is ridiculous, but I guess I am a businessman now."

He added: "The talks have been ongoing now for several months and I've been desperate to tell everyone but I'm keeping level-headed."

Doncaster Rovers fans are slightly less excited about the Tomlinson-Ryan venture in club ownership than they are.

Numerous Rovers supporters took to Twitter to voice their concerns over the move, with many puzzled as to why a pop star worth upwards of £15m needs to ask others to raise money.
