Lampard keen on Chelsea return

Frank Lampard says he would "love to be involved at Chelsea" when he brings his playing career to an end.

He has decided to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after 13 years at the club and has been strongly linked with a move to New York City - a franchise set up by Manchester City.

However, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, with the express approval of owner Roman Abramovich, has made it clear the door is open for Lampard to return on his terms whenever the time is right.

When asked what he thought about Mourinho's comments, Lampard told BBC Radio 5 Live: "That's nice. "I have a good relationship with him. I always will. He was a big influence on my career and the club is special to me.

"I don't know what I will do after football but if there was any club I would want to manage then everyone knows who it would be. It is nice to hear Jose say that. In any capacity, I would love to be involved at Chelsea - whether it be as manager, or just going back watching from the stands.

"It has been my life for the past 13 years and it will continue to be no matter what happens in the future."

Lampard will captain England for their final World Cup match in Brazil against Costa Rica on Tuesday, with Roy Hodgson's decision to give him the role suggesting the game is set to be the 36-year-old's international swansong.

However, Lampard has not ruled out the possibility of playing for England during the qualification campaign for Euro 2016.

"I don't know," Lampard said on whether he would retire from international duty after the World Cup. "I knew the question would come regardless of how we did in the tournament. I'm going to get home and make a decision at that point because I have my own future at home to sort out as well. This is not the time and the place.

"Making judgements when you are sitting in your room for a month on your own, you don't always come up with the right judgement."
