Suarez looking unsettled in England

Luis Suarez has poured further doubt on his Liverpool future with fresh complaints about the way he has been treated in England.

In what has started to look like the start of a well-planned media campaign to secure a big money move to La Liga - timed to coincide with the Uruguay player's eye-catching performances at the World Cup - Suarez's father-in-law told Spanish TV on Monday that the time was right to leave Liverpool.

The Spanish press has also reported that talks between Barcelona and Liverpool have already started over a move and a former Ajax team-mate has claimed Suarez has always had his heart set on playing for Barca.

Sources at Anfield have told ESPN they remain confident that the 27-year-old will not move this summer.

• Luis Suarez has had a further dig at England by insisting he was not even fully fit when he almost single-handedly fired Roy Hodgson's side out of the World Cup.
• "I was not really 100% and sometimes this turns around," Suarez said. "I was the other day really at the limits of my physical capacity.
• "And for the last match at Liverpool, I was full of cramps and I was tired. But of course you have a certain experience and you can build yourself up for the next assignment. This is what I am doing."
• "The knee feels good. I think it's in perfect shape but when you have surgery, you need some time to see the reaction. Having played so much of the England game and been the object of so much attention‚ if the knee didn't feel good, I would have told the coach. But I am cool right now.
• Uruguay go into Tuesday's crunch match with Italy knowing that anything less than a victory will see them join England in elimination from Group D.
• Suarez added: "We know what is at stake and we know that we have to qualify. Both teams will want to win and it will be a lovely game to play. We are ready to face the best possible Italy team and then we will play the way Uruguay play when we want to reach something."

But Suarez, a reported £70 million target for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, claimed after Uruguay's win over England that "too many people in England laughed about [his] attitude over the last few years" - apparently referring to incidents that saw him found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra and banned for biting Branislav Ivanovic.

And the striker, who was voted PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers' Association Player of the Year last season, has now said that criticism from the media in the build-up to the England game had also angered him.

"What happened before the match‚ I did not want to attack anybody, only some of the media started making fun of me and you are in the media. You should know what happened and why they did that to me," he said.

"You should know what happened and I think it was nothing more than the papers - because everybody knows that I was elected the best player of the year, even the people in the Premier League voted for me."

It is unclear exactly what Suarez was referring to with his latest comments, with criticism from the English media having waned last season as he put his past troubles behind him.

Having completed a 10-match suspension last September for biting Ivanovic, Suarez scored 31 goals as Liverpool finished runners-up to Premier League champions Manchester City, while he claimed the two major domestic Footballer of the Year awards.

Suarez's former Ajax team-mate Gabri Garcia, meanwhile, has claimed the striker has always wanted to play for Barcelona.

Speaking on Catalan radio show Esports en Xarxa, Gabri - who was with Suarez at the Dutch club from 2007 to 2010 - said that his friend had always wanted to play for Camp Nou club.

"He has always had in his head that someday he would be [a Barcelona player]," Gabri said. "I believe that he would be a great signing for Barca. He would adapt very quickly, very well, and would fit in very well inside the club. Also he has his wife's family living in Barcelona."
