Butt to stay on as United coach

Nicky Butt will reportedly continue in his role with the Manchester United academy under new manager Louis van Gaal.

The Daily Mail reports that the former United midfielder - who came through the academy as part of the Class of 92 - will continue to work alongside Warren Joyce with the Under-21 side and manage the Under-19 team in the UEFA Youth League.

A highly-placed source at Old Trafford reportedly said: "The Class of 92 are very important to Manchester United.

"Nicky is a member of staff at the club, he has a position here and he is working with Warren Joyce, who will remain at the club."

Ryan Giggs, another graduate of the Class of 92, was named as Van Gaal's assistant after he took temporary charge of United towards the end of last season following the sacking of David Moyes. Butt also assisted Giggs with Paul Scholes during that period.

With Butt set to remain in his role, Scholes is unlikely to be retained and there continues to be uncertainty surrounding the future of Phil Neville.

Under Moyes, Neville was United's first-team coach last season but it appears that Van Gaal will not keep him in that role next season.

In May, Neville admitted he had not heard anything from Van Gaal when asked whether the Dutchman had been in touch with him.

"No. There are obviously processes in place and he will have his structures and a team, and you just hope you are a part of that," Neville said.

"He is obviously a busy man with Holland at the World Cup. It is good to get the new manager announced and the club can start looking forward again and looking to improve on last season.

"I hope to stay and it is business as usual as far as I am concerned," he said. "I was first-team coach last year. I am not sure what my role will be next year but over the next couple of weeks I will find out about my role and hopefully I will be involved at Manchester United."
