'Suarez has always dreamed of La Liga'

Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli claims Luis Suarez confessed to him that he always dreamed of playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Liverpool striker Suarez has been heavily linked with a move to Spain, despite being handed a four-month ban from all football-related activity for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini while playing for Uruguay at the World Cup.

Barcelona are reportedly preparing a bid for Suarez, who could cost up to £80 million, while an apology from the player for the biting incident on Monday has been seen as an attempt to engineer a move to the Nou Camp.

It has been reported that, although they were interested in signing him, Barcelona required a public apology from Suarez and, should he move to Spain, may even consider inserting clauses into his contract which would allow them to punish him if he were to repeat his actions.

Liverpool are yet to formally comment on Suarez's future, but Comolli - who was one of the officials who brought the striker to Anfield from Ajax - insists it will be difficult for the Premier League runners-up to keep their man.

"Speaking to Luis before, and during, the World Cup, he's always said he is very happy at Liverpool," Comolli told TalkSPORT.

"But, during our time together at Anfield, he told me that his dream is to play in Spain at one point in his career, especially at Barcelona or Real Madrid.

"His wife's family live in Spain, he's in Barcelona every time he gets a couple of days off and has a house there.

"I've always thought in my mind, and I told [former manager] Kenny Dalglish at the time, that, if either of the big Spanish two came in and tried to get him, Liverpool would have a hard time to try and keep him."
