Interest in Ashley Cole is beginning to heat up as Roma are reportedly set to open talks with the left-back over a potential two-year deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Cole is a free agent having left Chelsea this summer, the club he spent eight years at following his £5 million move from Arsenal in 2006.

Chelsea loan out Hazard

  • Chelsea have announced Thorgan Hazard, younger brother of Eden, has joined Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach on a season-long loan.
  • Hazard signed for Chelsea from French club Lens in 2012 and spent all of last season on loan at Zulte Waregem in his native Belgium.

Several clubs have been touted with a move for Cole, who has also been linked with a shock return to north London.

It is claimed Monaco hold some interest in signing the 33-year-old, while the newspaper also suggests Barcelona and AC Milan were keeping tabs on the defender's situation.

However, it is reported that Roma have taken the initiative and Cole is now expected to travel to Rome for contract talks.

Cole was left out of Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup in favour of Leighton Baines and new Manchester United signing Luke Shaw. As a result, Cole retired from international duty having won 107 caps for the national side.
