Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy has confirmed to L'Equipe he is in discussions over a move to Arsenal.

Debuchy has been linked with a move to Arsenal, who are seeking a new right-back following the departure of Bacary Sagna, and reports emerged on Saturday that a deal was in place after the player appeared to confirm the switch on Instagram.

However, Debuchy denied it was him who posted on the photo-sharing website but stated talks over a switch to the Emirates are ongoing: "It wasn't me who posted it on Instagram.

"Everyone is saying that, but nothing has been done. For the moment, we are discussing it. Arsenal are a great club. We'll see what happens."

The BBC reports Newcastle are seeking around £10 million for the France international. The report adds that Arsenal are in talks to sign Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez for around £25m, which could delay Luis Suarez's potential transfer to the Catalan club from Liverpool.

Sanchez would solve Arsenal's striker crisis which manager Arsene Wenger has been keen to solve this summer. The Frenchman has also been linked with a move for Mario Balotelli.

It is set to be a busy summer for Wenger, who is also reportedly looking for a new goalkeeper and centre-back. With the expected departure of Thomas Vermaelen to Manchester United, reports suggest Wenger is interested in Dutch defender Joel Veltman, although he could face stiff competition from north London rivals Tottenham.

It is also claimed they are interested in Colombia left-back Pablo Armero, along with Southampton, who are looking for a replacement for Luke Shaw.
