Sneijder clause could trigger United move

Wesley Sneijder would be free to join Manchester United if they meet his £15.9 million release clause, Galatasaray have revealed

The midfielder was linked with United throughout the summer of 2011 but joined Galatasaray in January 2013 after being frozen out at Inter Milan.

However, it is rumoured United have revived their interest in the player following the appointment of current Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal.

The 30-year-old told the media last month that he would find it difficult to turn down the chance to play under Van Gaal at Old Trafford.

"Sneijder is a good player. We want to keep him at Galatasaray," the club's president Unal Aysal said.

"If Galatasaray receive an offer of €20 million, we do not have the luxury of saying no. That is stipulated in the contract. All I can say is that if any club pays us €20 million and he wants to go, we can't force him to stay because it is written in the contract."

Aysal was appearing at a news conference to unveil new coach Cesare Prandelli, who has taken charge of Galatasaray after resigning as Italy boss.

Prandelli told the press he had watched Sneijder's performances for the Netherlands at the World Cup this summer "with interest" and added: "He is one of the most important players for Netherlands and Galatasaray."

Van Gaal has already splashed out nearly £60m on Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer with United also chasing Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Juventus have told United that they will need to bid over £45m if they want to sign midfielder Arturo Vidal, however, while Patrice Evra could go in the other direction. The defender will be allowed to leave if he decides he wants to join the Serie A champions.
