Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to make an improved offer for Swansea's Ben Davies after Tottenham reportedly agreed a £10 million fee for the left-back.

Swansea are understood to have agreed a deal in principle with Spurs for Davies, according to the Daily Telegraph, with the player set to be withdrawn from Garry Monk's squad for Wednesday's friendly against Chivas Guadalajara in Milwaukee.

However, The Times reports that Rodgers, who saw an initial offer of £8m turned down by Swansea, is keen on making the 21-year-old his fifth summer recruit after Liverpool wrapped up the signing of winger Lazar Markovic from Benfica for £20m on Tuesday.

Davies is said to be aware of Liverpool's interest and would speak to them if they match Spurs' offer.

Liverpool's desire to land Davies increased after Sevilla turned down an offer of £16m for their left-back Alberto Moreno in May.

Sources have told ESPN that the two clubs cannot agree a fee but that 22-year-old Moreno remains a target and Liverpool may yet revive their pursuit of the £20m-rated Spaniard. However, with a successful transfer from from certain, they have taken a serious interest in alternatives.

Rodgers' team struggled on the left side of defence last season, first-choice for the position Jose Enrique suffering a long-term knee injury and loanee Aly Cissokho having an unsuccessful spell as his stand-in.

Davies is seen as a potential solution. He broke into the Swansea first team in 2012 and has made 84 appearances after graduating from the youth system. He also signed a contract extension with the club last December which could keep him at the Liberty Stadium until 2017.
