Anderson is a notable absentee from Louis van Gaal's 25-man squad for Manchester United's pre-season tour of the US.

The Brazilian, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina, missed the cut in a move that will cast further doubt over his future at Old Trafford.

Wilfried Zaha however, will get his chance to impress the new manager after being loaned out to Cardiff by former United manager David Moyes last term.

Anderson is joined on the list of absentees by Javier Hernandez, Patrice Evra, Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj, and Robin van Persie, though all five were part of national squads that reached the latter stages of the World Cup.

Evra has been waiting for a proposed move to Juventus to go through, although that deal has stalled after Antonio Conte stepped down as manager of the Italian champions.

Van Gaal, who officially took over as United manager on Wednesday, has selected new signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera in the travelling party, while also including a number of youth prospects.

David de Gea, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Shaw, Shinji Kagawa, Juan Mata, Nani and Antonio Valencia will all feature after returning from World Cup duty, while Michael Carrick misses out following surgery on an ankle injury expected to keep him out for up to ten weeks.

One other player missing the trip to the US is Bebe. The forward, widely considered a flop during his four years at United, is hoping to engineer a move to Portuguese champions Benfica.

United side will play four matches in the US, starting against LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup on July 23. The Premier League club then compete in the International Champions Cup against Roma in Denver on July 26, Inter in Washington on July 29 and Real Madrid in Ann Arbor on August 2.
