Jose Mourinho will hand Romelu Lukaku an opportunity to prove himself at Chelsea during the club's pre-season friendlies before deciding on his future.

Lukaku has spent the last two seasons on loan at Everton and West Brom and has only made 15 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club from Anderlecht in 2011. At the beginning of July, Lukaku revealed he did not want to be loaned out again and called on Chelsea to either show their faith in him or let him leave.

The striker has been strongly linked with a permanent move to Everton, but Mourinho will reportedly block Lukaku's exit from Chelsea as he wants to watch him in action before deciding whether to keep or sell him, according to the Sunday People.

Chelsea assistant coach Steve Holland said a decision on Lukaku's future is unlikely to be made in the next two weeks.

"The plan is that he will join up with us at some stage during the second week when we are in Holland," Holland said following Chelsea's 3-2 win over AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Asked whether Lukaku would leave Chelsea before then, Holland said: "That's the situation as I understand it."
