Liverpool in for Loic Remy?

Liverpool are closing in on a £20 million deal for Dejan Lovren which will see the defender become the third Southampton player to leave St Mary's for Anfield this summer.

ESPN sources have confirmed that significant progress has been made in talks and, according to The Times, Southampton have finally indicated they are ready to accept the structure of Liverpool's offer for Lovren. Liverpool had a £20m bid rejected earlier this summer but the top defensive target is now set to join former team-mates Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana in Brendan Rodgers' squad.

Wisdom joins West Brom

  • West Brom have moved to bring in Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom on a season-long loan.
  • Manager Alan Irvine has agreed a deal with the Anfield club which will see him further bolster his defensive options, having already brought Joleon Lescott, Chris Baird and Sebastien Pocognoli to the Hawthorns.
  • Wisdom spent a chunk of last season playing for Championship side Derby and has struggled to break into Brendan Rodgers' first team
  • Alan Irvine has spent over £10m improving his Albion squad this summer, including a club-record fee on Brown Ideye.

Lovren has long been on the Liverpool manager's wish list and, following increasing speculation over his future, had already made clear his head was already on Merseyside. But Rodgers will not stop spending there and is close to securing two more deals for long-term targets.

An £8m fee has already been agreed for QPR striker Loic Remy and the striker is due to fly out to Boston to complete a medical and join his new team-mates for their US tour. Liverpool are also said to have agreed a deal worth up to £9.5m for Divock Origi, the 19-year-old striker who impressed for Belgium at the World Cup.

Origi is keen to join Liverpool and plans are being made to fly him to Boston, too, although it is thought he will remain on loan at current club Lille until next season.

Rodgers is determined to strengthen his side for their return to the Champions League and, following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, is likely to take his summer outlay over the £100m mark.

Emre Can and Lazar Markovic have already joined Lallana and Lambert as new signings, with Rodgers having spent around £57m on the quartet.

He saw a £16m bid for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno turned down in May, which fuelled interest in Swansea defender Ben Davies. However, Tottenham appear to have taken the lead in the chase for the 21 year old.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have confirmed striker Iago Aspas has joined Sevilla on a season-long loan.
