Reina wants to end career in Spain
Pepe Reina has admitted he wants to end his career in his native Spain and has revealed he is yet to speak with Brendan Rodgers regarding his future at Liverpool.
The goalkeeper spent last season reunited with Rafa Benitez in a season-long loan deal at Napoli but the Serie A club were unwilling to meet a release clause priced at around £4 million to make the move permanent.
Despite his ambitions, Reina admitted that given the strength of goalkeeping among the clubs in Spain it would be difficult to forge a move there this summer.
"It's normal though that over the years you want to return to where you came from," Reina told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
"When Rafa Benitez signed me at Liverpool in 2005, I accepted and said that I would be back a little later in Spain."
The former Valencia and Barcelona goalkeeper is currently part of Liverpool's tour of the United States but fell out of favour after the signing of Simon Mignolet last summer. However, he still believes he has a future at the club.
"I have a contract to respect with Liverpool" added Reina. "I'm training well and I am perfectly fine with my team-mates.
"I am here to stay. I have not talked to Brendan Rodgers, I've been here for only four days and I am just thinking of training to my best and getting back into shape."
