Drogba rejoins Chelsea on one-year contract

Didier Drogba has rejoined Chelsea on a one-year contract, the club has announced.

It was a move that had been expected for a number of days and it sees the return of one of the club's most loved players. He is the fourth highest scorer in Chelsea history, and his last kick for the club came in sealing their Champions League triumph of 2012 in Munich.

Upon confirmation of the deal, Drogba said: "It was an easy decision. I couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with Jose Mourinho again.

"Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me.

"My desire to win is still the same and I look forward to the opportunity to help this team. I am excited for this next chapter of my career."

Coach Mourinho added: "He's coming because he's one of the best strikers in Europe. He's coming with the mentality to make more history."

The 36-year-old striker spent eight years at Stamford Bridge from 2004-2012, scoring 157 goals in 342 appearances. He scored the equaliser and winning penalty in the 2012 Champions League final then left for one-year stints in China and Turkey. His contract with Galatasaray expired at the end of last season.

The deal was much expected, with Mourinho himself saying in recent days that Drogba "belonged to Chelsea".
