Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Diego Forlan, but feels the Atletico Madrid forward may be out of reach.

Forlan has scaled great heights since leaving Manchester United for Spain, initially with Villarreal and more recently with Atletico. The Uruguayan has increased his stock with some excellent displays at the World Cup finals and has caught the eye of Spurs boss Redknapp.

Redknapp has confirmed he would be interested in making a play for Forlan, but feels any bid may fall on deaf ears.

"He is a player I would like," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "I just think he may be out of our range.

"He has had an outstanding World Cup and there would not be too many players at the World Cup who have done better than Forlan. He has worked hard and scored goals and is a top player."

The forward is focused on Uruguay's World Cup semi-final with Netherlands, but has no intention of seeking a move away from the Vicente Calderon.

"I am very happy in Madrid and I have three years left on my contract with Atletico," Forlan told the Daily Mirror. "I will not go.

"Now I want to have another season as good or better than the one just completed."

Joe Cole is also on Redknapp's wish list, but there is nothing on the horizon. "Joe is an outstanding player, good professional and great attitude," the Tottenham boss said. "I would love to have Joe at Tottenham. There are lots of clubs in for him and we are not near to doing anything with Joe.

"We might do one or two. We want to get someone who can make a difference. It is just finding that one or two, it is difficult when you have a good squad, and we may come up with one or two."

Jermain Defoe has spoken in glowing terms of Cole and would love to see the forward head to White Hart Lane.

"When we were in South Africa (you could see) every day his passion and his drive to want to improve," Cole told Sky Sports News. "In training he was sharp and he was strong, he just loves football - that's Joe. So if we could get someone like that at the club it would be good for everyone.''
