Loic Remy's move to Liverpool is off after the striker reportedly failed a medical.

An £8 million fee had been agreed for the Queens Park Rangers striker, who had travelled to Liverpool's pre-season training camp in Boston to complete the switch with terms over a four-year deal already in place.

Rodgers said: "It's very simple - we've made a decision as a club not to go ahead with the deal. It's unfortunate for the player.

"We're disappointed for the player but there's nothing more to be said and we will move on and look at other targets."

Remy would have been Liverpool's fifth summer signing, after the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic.

Liverpool later went on to complete a £20m deal for Dejan Lovren, while teenage striker Divock Origi is also said to have undergone a medical in Boston.

But despite the Remy setback, as well as the injury picked up by Lallana, Rodgers has insisted he will not panic buy and will wait until the January transfer window if he needs to.
