I'd still be at United under Giggs, says Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has claimed he would still be a Manchester United player if Ryan Giggs was in charge at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand left United on a free transfer this summer after 12 years at the club and has since penned a one-year deal with Queens Park Rangers.

Giggs was put in temporary charge following the club's decision to sack David Moyes last season and enjoyed four matches as first team manager. At one stage the winger was mooted to be given the job full time, before the club moved to appoint Louis van Gaal as Moyes' long-term successor.

Ferdinand admitted he had spoken to Giggs about his future at the club had the Welshman taken charge on a permanent basis, but was deemed surplus to requirements when the Van Gaal arrived.

"Giggsy is one of my mates and I've played with him for years," Ferdinand said. "We had that conversation when he took over the job and he was looking at it like he was going to be in charge this season.

"He did make it clear to me that I would have been part of his plans but as you know in football things change quickly and you've got to move on.

"A new manager came in, things have gone a different way. You have to brush yourself down and get on with it. That's what I've done."
