Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has revealed he is hopeful the club can agree a deal to keep Robinho on loan until the end of the year.

Robinho headed back to Santos on loan in January after a dismal start to the season with Manchester City. He was able to recover his form in Brazil and was one of the country's best performers at this summer's World Cup.

As a result, Oliveira believes it may be in City's best interests to allow him to prolong his loan spell as he believes the player's value has increased dramatically as a result of his return to Santos.

"We have made his stay in Brazil possible in terms of money and there is his desire to stay," he said. "We just have to agree with the [City owners].

"We feel responsible [for his performance at the World Cup]. Just look how Robinho was five months ago and how he is today. If you think from the standpoint of the investor, the player has gained a lot of value and can appreciate even more."

It remains to be seen whether Robinho, who cost £32.5 million when he moved to Eastlands in 2008, will be in Roberto Mancini's plans for next season.
