Pellegrini tells Wenger to focus on Arsenal

Manuel Pellegrini has hit back at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and insists the Frenchman should concentrate on his own team, rather than Manchester City's transfer business.

Wenger has been outspoken on City's dealings this summer and, when asked about Frank Lampard's recent loan move to the Etihad, had said: "Is it a way to get around the fair play? I don't know."

He also questioned whether Bacary Sagna had made up his mind to move to City "a long time ago" but, ahead of City's Community Shield clash with Arsenal on Saturday, Pellegrini told Wenger to focus on his own side.

Asked if he was surprised by Wenger's comments, Pellegrini replied: "Yes, I was. "I think that as a manager we have enough problems with our teams without talking about other teams.

"I will not answer that but I can say we have important restrictions about the amount of money and the amount of players.

"Frank Lampard, we don't spend any money in bringing him from New York City to Manchester. So the rules of Financial Fair Play doesn't have any relation with Lampard."

When questioned whether he thought both deals were done correctly, he added: "I think so, yes."

Wenger was not the only target of Pellegrini's frustration. The Chilean also defended Lampard's move to Manchester after the midfielder attracted criticism from Chelsea fans.

"He was a free player so I don't understand the reaction of Chelsea fans who say he is a traitor because he is not at Chelsea," Pellegrini said. "The problem was not that Frank Lampard didn't want to sign another contract with Chelsea, Chelsea didn't want him anymore.

"He wants to continue playing and he is a good player and very important for our team. We didn't spend any money on him."
