WBA set to hijack West Ham's Piquionne bid

West Bromwich Albion are set to hijack West Ham's move for Lyon's Frederic Piquionne after admitting their interest in the French striker.
New Hammers boss Avram Grant is attempting to put together a deal that would see him reunite with Piquionne, who he managed last season at Portsmouth.
Piquionne scored 11 times while on loan at the Fratton Park side, and he played an integral role in Portsmouth's journey to the FA Cup final.
Now the Baggies have admitted that they are eager for the 31-year-old to spearhead their attack as they seek to avoid a return to the Championship at the first attempt.
"Frederic has got a couple of years left at Lyon and we've made an inquiry but there is no firm commitment," said West Brom's sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth."He is a player who has been linked with three or four clubs so he's not short of options."
Albion winger Jerome Thomas, formerly of Portsmouth, has signed a one-year extension to his contract which will keep him at the Hawthorns until the summer of 2012.
