Liverpool's frustrating battle with Sevilla over the transfer of Alberto Moreno hit a further snag after the La Liga club issued an ultimatum over the left-back - pay full price or move on.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has long been interested in Moreno and saw a £16 million bid for the 22 year old turned down in May.

It is thought Sevilla value Moreno at around £20m and club president Jose Castro warned Liverpool to match their asking price or look elsewhere.

"There have been negotiations [for Moreno], eight or 10 days ago, but there has been no agreement and nor is there today," Castro said.

"If Liverpool's offer is suitable he will leave. If not, he'll stay and nothing will happen, absolutely nothing. We'll be at ease."

Rodgers has made signing new full-backs a priority this summer and has already agreed a loan move for Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo, with a view to a permanent deal.

Moreno has been one of Rodgers' leading transfer targets this summer and, after coming close to striking a deal for the defender, his interest appeared to wane when Sevilla refused to back down over their initial valuation.

A move for Ben Davies was considered before the 21 year old opted to leave Swansea for Tottenham, which seemingly reignited Rodgers' interest in Moreno.

Ryan Bertrand was also mooted to be a target, although Chelsea's reluctance to deal with potential Premier League title rivals seemingly extinguished any hopes of a deal. Bertrand instead moved on-loan to Southampton.

Rodgers is keen to sign a left-back despite the return to fitness of Jose Enrique, who missed the final six months of last season with a knee problem, while Aly Cissokho failed to make the position his own during a season-long loan from Valencia.

Moreno, who has been warned by Iago Aspas not to join Liverpool, is expected to line-up for Sevilla against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final in Cardiff on Tuesday.
