  • "Brendan Rodgers has used the Luis Suarez bounty to strengthen the squad's depth and multiply his options for what will be a busier season than last. This could be the preparatory season for Liverpool to mount another serious title campaign in 2015, when all the new players have bedded in. Patience will hopefully be a virtue that is ultimately rewarded"

The news came after the left-back was pulled out of Sevilla's squad for Tuesday's UEFA Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid. The Spain international is set to travel to Merseyside for a medical after Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre secured the agreement, sources have told ESPN.

Brendan Rodgers has been looking to strengthen at left-back all summer with Liverpool also showing interest in Tottenham's Ben Davies and Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand, though Moreno had remained the club's leading target.

Sevilla had so far dug their heels in over the transfer by demanding £20m for the player and even issued an ultimatum earlier this week that Liverpool must pay full price or move on.

However, a compromise has now been reached following talks in Cardiff between Ayre and Sevilla officials on Tuesday.

Should personal terms be agreed and a medical passed, Moreno will join Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Divock Origi, Lazar Markovic, Emre Can and Javier Maquillo as the latest new arrival at Anfield.

The capture of Moreno is also set to see Liverpool defender Martin Kelly free to leave for Crystal Palace for £1.5m.
