Januzaj handed United No.11 shirt

Manchester United have announced their squad numbers for the new Premier League season with Adnan Januzaj being handed the No.11 shirt.

Made famous by Ryan Giggs, United opted not to retire the shirt number following the Welshman's decision to retire after 22 years of playing for the club last May. Giggs is now working as assistant manager to Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Januzaj was tipped to take on the number, with photos of his name coupled with the No.11 on the back of United's away kit in the club store leaking onto social media on Tuesday.

Having worn No.44 last season, Januzaj - who signed a five-year contract in October - scored four goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

Summer signing Luke Shaw - who United have confirmed will be out for around four weeks with a hamstring injury - will wear the No.3 shirt, while new midfielder Ander Herrara has been given No.21.

However, Van Gaal has fuelled speculation of further additions to his squad by leaving three first-team numbers vacant.

One of those is the iconic No.7 shirt, formerly worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Bryan Robson and George Best, with Antonio Valencia deciding to revert to his old No.25 last season having taken on the number for a year.

The No.9 is also yet to be assigned to a player as is Rio Ferdinand's former No.5 shirt, while Nemanja Vidic's former No.15 is also up for grabs.

United's official Twitter account confirmed any new signings will be handed the numbers that are currently vacant.
