ESPN FC: Will Manchester United be the Premier League's most interesting story this season?

Louis van Gaal has handed Premier League debuts to Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Tyler Blackett in his first team selection as Manchester United manager.

Lingard, a 21-year-old attacking midfielder who enjoyed successful loan spells with Birmingham and Brighton last season, will play as right wing-back in Van Gaal's 3-5-2 formation, while Ashley Young will start on the left.

Blackett, 20, who also spent some time at Birmingham last year, has impressed in pre-season and will start alongside Phil Jones and Chris Smalling with Luke Shaw sidelined by a hamstring injury.

New signing Herrera will be joined in midfield by Darren Fletcher, while Juan Mata plays off Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, with Robin van Persie still not ready to return.

Van Gaal has already admitted he will not be rushed into making any new signings at United.

In his pre-match press conference, new United captain Rooney told BT Sport: "It's a great honour for me, but it's about the team and we want to get off to a good start.

"[Van Gaal] has been great to us all. He's an honest manager and we've done well in pre-season under his new system so we're all looking forward to it."

For Swansea, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski - signed from Arsenal - will also make his debut.
