Rodgers: Liverpool bigger than Suarez

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed he turned down "bigger" financial offers in order to secure his preferred move to Merseyside.

Lovren joined Liverpool for £20 million in July and has already started to impress at his new club. The Croatian earned praise from manager Brendan Rodgers following Liverpool's opening Premier League victory against his former club Southampton on Sunday.

The 25-year-old will have further warmed himself to the Anfield faithful with claims he rejected big-money moves elsewhere - because Liverpool was always his first choice.

Lovren said: "I had better offers financially but from the first day I said I want to come to Liverpool. I want to achieve something here because I know this club is big and Brendan Rodgers is a great manager.

"There is a lot of talent here - amazing players - and last season they showed they can do something. I'm really confident in this team."

Lovren has made an impressive start to life at his new club, with Rodgers having stated his new recruit could follow in the footsteps of Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
