Tim Sherwood looks set to be named the new manager of Crystal Palace after beating Malky Mackay to the job, according to The Sun.

Palace will announce either on Tuesday or Wednesday who will succeed Tony Pulis - who left the club after holding crisis talks with cco-chairman Steve Parish last Thursday over what the coach believed was a debilitating lack of transfer activity.

The Sun reports that Sherwood is in line to take over at Selhurst Park, saying Sherwood was "very confident" of landing the job ahead of former Cardiff manager Mackay.

Sherwood was sacked as manager of Tottenham last season after taking over from Andre Villas-Boas in December 2013 on an 18-month deal. He guided Spurs to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League but was relieved of his duties once the season had come to an end.

Mackay has been out of a job since he was sacked by Cardiff last December, but while he has held initial discussions with Parish, reports suggest Sherwood is the preferred choice.
