Paul Lambert says Southampton manager Ronald Koeman was "disrespectful" after he publicly spoke of his interest in brining Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar to St Mary's.

Koeman, whose reshaped side produced a good performance before being beaten 2-1 at Liverpool on Sunday, said he would "really like" to add compatriot Vlaar to his squad.

"I think he is disrespecting when talking about other team's players when they are still their players. I think that's wrong," Lambert told Sky Sports.

"I wouldn't mind if he picked up the phone, but you don't go public on it. That's the thing that annoyed me the most and the stance is still exactly the same with Ron."

Netherlands international Vlaar - who played under Koeman at Dutch club Feynoord - still has one year remaining on his contract, but Villa are expected to offer him a new deal.

Lambert and Koeman will go head-to-head at Villa Park on November 24 when their respective sides clash in the Premier League.
