New signings excellent - Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers wants to see every Liverpool player pitch in with more goals this season as the Anfield club continues to deal with the departure of Luis Suarez.

Suarez scored 31 of Liverpool's 101 league goals last season, which spearheaded the club's surprise title challenge, before the striker left Merseyside for Barcelona this summer.

Rodgers backed Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge to step-up in the Uruguayan's absence and both came up trumps with goals in Liverpool's opening 2-1 victory against Southampton on Sunday.

Now the Northern Irishman is keen to see the rest of his squad follow suit in order to maintain a second successive title tilt.

"More goals from everyone, that's the objective," Rodgers told Liverpool's official website. "Everyone will want to improve.

"A lot of the games here at Anfield we were winning reasonably comfortably last season, so we knew that the expectancy for us was going to be to win the game.

"We won't always win by playing beautiful football. Sometimes we're going to have to dig in and grind a result out, and that's what we did [against Southampton]."

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that new signing Lazar Markovic has chosen to wear the No.50 shirt this season.

Markovic has worn that particular number on his back from his senior debut with Partizan Belgrade to his time at Benfica.
