ESPN FC: Will Rojo be a good fit at Manchester United?

Germany forward Thomas Mueller has revealed how he turned down a lucrative offer to join Manchester United during the summer in order to remain at Bayern Munich which he describes as "my club".

United have been linked with a host of transfer targets as new manager Louis van Gaal continues to rebuild a team that finished seventh last season into title contenders.

So far, United have recruited Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Vanja Milinkovic and look set to complete a £16 million deal for central defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon.

However, Mueller, who worked with van Gaal at Bayern, claimed he did not even consider a move to Old Trafford.

"I could earn more by moving," Mueller told reporters. "The figures that foreign clubs were talking about for me were astronomical.

"I can only say: a change was never really an issue for me anyway. FC Bayern is my club."

United were also handed a transfer blow from Mueller's international teammate Marco Reus, according to Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo.

"I don't know where the Marco Reus rumour came from," said Cerezo. "It's a player who, at this time, is impossible to us.

"Look, he had an offer for a lot of money from Manchester United and he has not gone. We will not sign him with a lesser offer."
