Moody leaves Palace role as FA receive Cardiff dossier

The turmoil surrounding Crystal Palace's aborted attempt to appoint Malky Mackay as their new manager has gathered pace, with the club confirming sporting director Iain Moody has resigned.

Moody worked alongside Mackay at Cardiff City, but the pair are subject of a dossier handed to the FA by the Welsh club in relation to alleged misconduct. Moody was suspended by Cardiff last October, while Mackay was sacked as manager in December.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the dossier is believed to contain a string of inappropriate texts attributed to Mackay and Moody. The FA has confirmed that it is investigating the matter.

A short statement on the Crystal Palace website read: "In light of the events of yesterday, Sporting Director, Iain Moody has tendered his resignation and it has been accepted with immediate effect. There will be no further comment from the club on this matter."

Mackay had been on the brink of being appointed Palace manager on Wednesday when the club ended their interest, with a source informing ESPN at the time that the breakdown had come due to disagreements over Mackay's backroom staff.

Palace began the season under interim manager Keith Millen after Tony Pulis resigned two days before their first fixture against Arsenal, having fallen out with co-chairman Steve Parish over transfer plans.
