What does Costa's injury mean for Chelsea?

Chelsea are said to be concerned that new £32 million striker Diego Costa has suffered a hamstring injury and is struggling to be fit to face Everton.

He reportedly sustained the problem in training on Wednesday, prompting fears he could be out for up to six weeks.

Chelsea will monitor the injury, which they have downplayed as a 'minor muscular injury", while Costa, who had hamstring problems while at Atletico Madrid last season, is said not to have given up hope of playing at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

Any long-term prognosis could have a bearing on Fernando Torres' future at Chelsea. He is interested in a move to Milan but the Italian club are yet to meet the striker's wage demands and he reportedly earns £9m a year at Stamford Bridge.

Milan are understood to be ready to pay him around £7m a year on a season-long loan or even a permanent deal but Chelsea have made clear privately they will not subsidise his wages at another club.

Milan are also in negotiations to take midfielder Marco van Ginkel on loan for the rest of the season, which would solve Chelsea's foreign player problem.
